HUET Helicopter.Underwater.Escape.Training

I was smoked and soaked today at SMTC

My second day at SMTC (Sribima Maritime Training Center) for offshore safety training ... today was a combination of fire fighting and sea survival practical ....

In the morning, I was required to go into the smoke house and try to find my way out .... then in the afternoon i was required to jump from a 3m platfrom into the pool ... with simulated wave ... and do all sorts survival training ....

I am glad that it was finally over .... being smoked and soaked on the last day ... what a tiring day .... and i shall forget about it until 3 years later .... when i need to do the refresher again .....

I hate HUET !!!!!!

Finally, the time comes for me to do my refresher for my offshore safety training. The thing i hate most about it is the HUET Helicopter..Underwater.. Escape..Training.. used to just need to hold my breathe underwater while trying to escape from a simulated helicopter ditching ... but now they introduce a new thing ... EBS Enhanced.. Breathing..System basically some apparatus that will help us breath underwater .... haih ... more work to do

Just finished the HUET training this morning .... glad that it was held on the first day ... just get it done and forget about it .... but today something extraordinary happened ... my air pocket at my life jacket is somehow filled with water when i was doing my first simulation .... when i was trying to breath underwater .... i can only taste water .... no air ..... GOSH !!!!! Luckily i was calm enough to hold my breath and get through it .... it does result in me swallowing some water .... What a day !!!!

Although i do admit that the training is really very useful and important for guys like us that work offshore most of our time .... but i cant cheat myself but to say I really hate HUET !!!!!

Auto Focus

I lost my spectacles at Labuan !!!!!

What a splendid time I have at Labuan .... until I lost my spectacles at Labuan .... too drunk to even remember what actually happened that night ....

The whole thing just started with a casual conversation with my fellow technician when he drove me back to my apartment .... he asked me whether do i drink .... and I answered "YES" ... i am a social drinker .... so he invited me to join him for drinking that night itself ....

So after dinner, i went with him together with two other colleagues to Little Labuan ... located in quite a deserted place .... a little further up from Tiara .... quite a cozy place .... a perfect spot to warm up .... we ordered some buckets of beers ... and after an hour an a half ... we proceed to the next location ....

The next location was Beyond .... located at one of the most happening area at Labuan .... we ordered ourselves some nice cocktail .... started with vodka lime ... then tequila shot .... then chivas coke .... and then hahaha .... sorry but cant remember dee ....

All i remember was the next morning when i am ready to go for work .... i realize my spectacles is no more with me .... a night to remember .... :-)

Labuan

I has been at Labuan since yesterday. Came here to do some work at the workshop. It has bee n almost a year since i last visited Labuan. Everything still pretty much the same .... except for we have no more Sheraton Hotel here .... change its name to something else ... cant remember what was it ....

I was put into Beta Hotel .... sad to say but the apartment was really screw up .... it is really dirty that i wore my slipper everywhere i go in the apartment .... not used to be like this when i was here last year .... the only thing good about this apartment is that it is connected to Financial park ... supposely to the largest shopping complex here .... very convenient for food and shopping .... well i got a lot of order from my friends at miri .... going to buy a lot of chocolates before i go back .... and a bottle of liquor of coz .....

I have two more colleagues coming here tomorrow ... so got company to start exploring Labuan tomorrow :-)

Morning Cruise

Yesterday morning was a bit of something, joined a group of newly meet friends for a river cruise. It was kind of a last minute invitation, but i joined anyway knowing that i do not have anything better to do that morning.

Actually last week when i was on a chopper coming back from Sabah offshore, i do actually notice the river from above, just never thought i will be actually on it ....

We departed from a jetty point near the Piasau Boat Club, traveling along the river of Baram ( i think) ... Along the way we passed by a lot of settlement/houses, and it was nice for us to notice that kids are actually greeting us by waving their hands with a look of excitement ....

The morning breeze was really refreshing .... we are all relaxed and enjoyed the ride ....

We stopped somewhere in the middle of nowhere for breakfast ... salmon and vegetarian sandwich with a cup of red wine ..... very interesting breakfast at the in the middle of a river surrounded by greenery .... can't ask for a better breakfast experience :-)

We kinda get lost after that, suppose to go deeper but end up going back to the jetty instead .... we lost one of the two engine so the journey back was slower .... and on some occasion the engine propeller actually got caught with wood plank and plastic back .... but eventually we do safely return to the jetty

A simple yet enjoyable morning cruise

LUCK

Luck .... in mathematic term is called probability ..... something that revolves around our lives .... whether we choose to believe it or not .....

Some might not believe in luck .... and some will go all the way to the extent of being superstitious about it ....

Have we wonder why sometimes when get on the road ... the traffic light is so friendly to you ... showing green all the way .... or when you wake up in the morning ... cut yourself while shaving, spill coffee on your shirt during breakfast and car break down halfway to the office ..... was it good luck or bad luck or just mere coincidence or maybe consequences of our action .....

How can we explain event whereby two couples not knowing each other at first, met in the oddest way and get hook up .... coincidence, faith or luck??

And if you argue that luck is the consequences of our action, then can we actually drive in a way whereby the traffic light will turn green everytime we drove past it ??

Some also believe that luck is due to our perception ... the way how we want the event to look like ... whether bad or good .... but i am almost sure no one would say that car breaking down halfway to the office is a good thing to happen .....

Some people do believe that we can control our luck by doing the right thing (i.e. proper planning, risk management, being careful, etc) .... i must say i do agree on that but still i do believe a person's life can just move up and down by just sheer luck, even precaution is taken ....

Ironically, we must agree that luck has play a part in our life since the day we are born to the moment of our last breath ... school examinations, university entry, jobs application etc .... and at some point of time ... good or bad things just happened without any explanation .... we can try to search hard for the answer only to find out that it is not possible to explain it in a logical way ....

When we flipped a coin, mathematically we can say that the probability of getting head or tail is 50-50 but how can we explain why it is a head or a tail .....

Haha .... something to think about huh ........ :-)

EPF Nomination

EPF has migrated to a computerized system on Dec 2006, and apparently our nomination data is lost during the migration. I have received many e-mails regarding this for the past one and a half year and didnt really border to check at first. But many of my friends checked and they return to me telling me it is true.

Just went to check out last year December and found out that my nomination data was also lost. I am very sure when i first apply for my EPF that i do fill in the nomination data. The officer told me that it was my employer fault, but i really doubt so. Usually we submit the form together with our nomination data and if the account is successfully opened, there is no way that they can missed our nomination data.

Just received an e-mail regarding this again recently, so it just struck my mind to share about this piece of information. I do not know what will be the impact of not having a nomination in your EPF, but i do think it is better to spend some time to check it out at the EPF office.
